Energy Psychology: Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science
Energy psychology is a field that combines cognitive and exposure-based techniques with methods drawn from ancient healing systems, particularly acupressure. It may sound unusual at first, but the evidence behind it is growing.
The most well-known approach within energy psychology is the Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly called EFT or tapping. It involves gently tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a distressing thought, memory, or emotion.
Why does it work? Research suggests that acupoint tapping sends calming signals to the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the stress response. This helps reduce the intensity of negative emotions quickly and reliably.
Studies have shown that EFT can be as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Some research points to measurable biological changes, including reduced cortisol levels and improved immune markers.
What makes energy psychology different from traditional therapy is its speed. Many people notice significant shifts within just a few sessions. It is also something you can learn to use on your own, making it a practical tool for everyday emotional regulation.
Energy psychology does not ask you to analyse your past in detail or talk for months before seeing results. It works directly with the body's responses, which is why many people find it both effective and accessible.
If you have tried other approaches and felt they were too slow or too abstract, energy psychology might offer a different path forward.
